The Basics of Motorcycles
Motorcycles are motor-powered vehicles which use an internal combustion engine to power two or three wheels. The first motorcycles were invented in Germany in 1885. They bore the name Reitwagen which translated to “riding car.”
The origin of motorcycles is based on bicycles but they differ from bicycles in several ways. One of the main differences is the size and weight of the motorcycle.
Safety:
The most important thing that any biker should have is proper gear to protect them in an accident. This includes protective helmets, jackets, pants and gloves.
DOT approved riding gear that is properly crash tested can be purchased at many biker stores or online. It is very important to have the right gear because it can save your life.
Protection:
Another very important piece of equipment that every motorcycle rider should have is strong motorcycle boots. They will prevent your skin from burning and keep your feet safe in an accident.
Weather:
Riding in the rain can be dangerous if you don’t have proper protective clothing. It is advisable to get a good waterproof motorcycle jacket that will cover you from head to toe.
Other accessories:
Some motorcycles have extra storage space like a trunk. This is usually mounted above or below the seat and can be accessed from the side of the bike. It is also possible to have a luggage rack on the back of the bike where bags can be fastened.
